Our Commitment to Privacy

Your privacy is important to us. Docomments was built with a "Privacy by Design" approach. The app does not collect or share any personal data. Its core functionality runs entirely on your Mac.

2. Data We Collect

Docomments processes all data locally on your Mac. We do not operate any servers that receive your data, and the app does not send your comments or files anywhere. Specifically:

Comments and tags: Comments are written as the Finder comment of the file you edit, and tags you apply are stored as Finder tags on that file. They are part of the file's metadata on your Mac. We never have access to your files or their contents.
App settings and recent files: Your preferences and the list of recently annotated files (including the permission bookmarks needed to reopen them) are stored in the app's own sandboxed container on your Mac.
No analytics or tracking: The app does not include any analytics frameworks, tracking tools or third-party SDKs.
No advertising: The app contains no advertising networks.

3. Tips (In-App Purchases)

Docomments offers optional tips as in-app purchases. When you open the tips section in the settings, the app asks the App Store for the available tips and their prices through Apple's StoreKit. Purchases are processed entirely by Apple. No third-party purchase service is involved, and we do not receive your name, email address, Apple Account or payment information.

4. Apple App Store

When you download Docomments or leave a tip through the Mac App Store, Apple processes your transaction data according to their own privacy policy. The same applies if you choose to rate the app through Apple's rating prompt. We receive anonymized and aggregated sales data from Apple but have no access to your Apple Account or payment information.

5. Data Storage & Retention

App data: Settings and the recent files list are stored locally on your Mac and are deleted when you remove the app together with its container.
Comments and tags: These belong to your files and remain on them after uninstalling the app. You can remove them at any time in Docomments or in Finder.

6. This Website

This website is hosted by ALL-INKL.COM – Neue Medien Münnich, Hauptstraße 68, 02742 Friedersdorf, Germany (All-Inkl). More information can be found in All-Inkl's privacy policy.

To display the website in your browser, the server has to briefly process your IP address and technical information about your browser. Access logging in server log files is disabled for this website, so no access data is stored or analyzed. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest lies in providing the website reliably and securely. We have a data processing agreement with All-Inkl under Art. 28 GDPR.

The website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking tools. Fonts and images are loaded only from this server. Links to the App Store or other websites only take you there when you click them; from then on, the privacy policy of that provider applies.

7. Contacting Us by Email

If you email us, we process your details (such as your name, email address and the content of your message) to answer your request. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR if your request relates to a contract or pre-contractual measures, and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR otherwise; our legitimate interest lies in answering your request. We delete your message once your request has been dealt with, unless legal retention periods apply.

8. Your Rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

Since the app itself does not process any personal data on our side, this mainly concerns emails you send us. Comments, tags and app data stay on your Mac, and you can remove them there yourself at any time.

9. Children's Privacy

Docomments does not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13. The app is suitable for users of all ages.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available on this page. Please check it occasionally for changes.
